Both the story and Thomas a Becket have something to do with the travels of pilgrims to the Canterbury whether they describe or influence the pilgrimages.

Thomas A. Becket was the reason why the Canterbury Tales was written. Because he stood up for the chruch against the king and was murdered, he was known as a Saint. If he would have never stepped up to the king then the Canterbury Tales would have never took place. When the story was made, pilgrims were heading to Canterbury to celebrate what Becket has done.

Thomas A Becket was an archbishop that stood up for Christianity. By being murdered for his religion and being proclaimed a saint gave many poor and lower class Christian pilgrims hope. Which is why it became a popular destination for Christian pilgrims.

They are related because they happen to be in the same time period and also with the travel of the pilgrimage.

Becket was the saint guy that the alley was made in honor of. Without the alley, they wouldnt be any stories about people walking to a non existence place.
