After reading the article about too much self-esteem, Where do you think you fit in in terms of how you were praised growing up? Do you think you have high self-esteem because you were told you're awesome by teachers, parents or peers? Or because you do really well in all/most of your endeavors?
Then, discuss the true meaning of self-esteem. According to the article, it "is based on real accomplishments" and is built on 3 main things: self-efficacy, real competencies and skills. The article goes on to say that students, "who have high self-esteem may become rude and uncooperative when they're criticized," but is this really true? Please describe what is the false and true notions about self-esteem.
Lastly, describe what other factors other than self-esteem play a role in being a successful student?

If you are working with Simone on getting a head start on Senior Seminar work (including the research paper), I would like CONGRATULATE you for taking the initiative and being strategic about your senior year.
You are doing the best thing you could do for yourself by using your time wisely and I GUARANTEE that it will reduce your stress during the school year. After all, the last thing you need during such a pivotal time in your life (meeting requirements to graduate, applying for scholarships and colleges, being independent) is more stress. Write a 3/4 page response, in proper paragraphs, comparing and contrasting your translations/understanding of the text (Act I, sc 5 and Act II, sc 2- sections 1,2,3) and the comic book version that was handed to you in class. Please understand that the comic book sections are only excerpts and that they are the equivalent to the passages from last nights homework.

Tell me:

  • If you translated correctly
  • Did you imagine it the same way
  • Which version was better (yours or the comics)
  • Explain any discrepancies you noticed

-If you do not have the comic book version, do not bother trying to do this assignment, this assignment will have to be completed AFTER you take the "Analysis Quiz" on the aforementioned passages. The write up should include:
1. Your opinion on the message of the poems
2. Criticize or praise one part of the poem.

You must address BOTH POEMS, so choose which ever paragraph structure that you feel is appropriate. It must have more than one massive paragraph. This is not a quickwrite.
Ensure that there are the least amount of errors possible.

Review the information you have on Sonnets and make a flip book that includes the main elements of a sonnet.
Your intended reader is an elementary school aged child, so your book should include color and pictures. It should also be small and easy to flip through.

Don't know what a good human is? Think about this:
Are you a good person if you steal, kill, are greedy, rape, lie?
Notice how all of the above hurt people?
A Moral usually has to do with the not hurting of people or yourself.
Also think of Vices and virtues that you could perhaps incorporate.
Vices: an evil, degrading, or immoral practice or habit.

Prepare a presentation of one of the characters introduced in the Prologue.
- Reread the section on the character that you will focus on. Pay close attention to the adjectives.
- Think of body language, gestures or props that you can make or use in order to portray your characters personality.
- Try to keep the talking to a minimum (no talking) and focus mostly on actions and/or appearance.
- Remember that you get extra credit if you bring in props.
- The class will guess which character you are portraying so try to make it evident who you are.
